Titanic officer William James Moody was born on August 21, 1887, in Scarborough, England. He joined the Royal Navy in 1902 and served on several ships before being assigned to the Titanic in 1912 as the sixth officer. Moody was responsible for several tasks on the ship, including supervising lifeboat drills and maintaining the ship's charts.
During the fateful night of April 14, 1912, Moody played a crucial role in the Titanic's evacuation. He was instrumental in launching the lifeboats and helped to load passengers into them. Moody also assisted in the deployment of distress rockets to signal for help.
Sadly, Moody did not survive the sinking of the Titanic. He was last seen attempting to launch collapsible lifeboat A, but it was washed away by the ship's sinking and he was dragged down by the water. Moody's bravery and selflessness during the Titanic disaster have been widely recognized, and he is remembered as one of the heroes of the tragic event.
